As the World Rambles On: February Edition

Hello all! Thank you for coming back for another exciting edition of As the World Rambles On. We are still staying stupid busy and secretly hoping things slow down a bit in the coming months. Catch up on all the February happening by reading on.

Welp. I blinked and February was over. Honestly, sometimes I dread doing these life updates because I feel like my life has gotten pretty boring as of lately. At my old job, I lived for the weekends because I was so miserable and now that isn’t the case at all. I’m just extremely exhausted by Friday and I just want to rest. However, y’all should all know by now that I can’t just sit still for an entire weekend. So if my life update for this month is boring, now you know why. It’s because I’m tired YO.

To kick off the month, First Grade represented B.B. Rice at the science fair which turned out being a blast! We had students make their own ice cream and then melt crayons on a canvas. Our theme was “Heating and Cooling” so that explains the vast difference between the two activities. I managed to land on the front page of the newspaper and that brought me back to the old times when The Courier highlighted more of the good stuff.

The following weekend, I volunteered with Junior League at our IMPACT event that we host every year for teachers and administrators. A different speaker comes to motivate educators throughout our county and this year it was Leon Logothetis. He wrote the book, “Go Be Kind” and y’all should read it because it’s great. I managed to take no pictures that weekend, so I’m posting a pic of the book with a link in case you want to read it.

For Valentine’s, we went to Joe’s Italian like we always do but this year our special guests were Pop and his girlfriend, Ms. Sharon. Phil came too, but now he’s like a staple in our family! Which I’m totally good with. The following night we went to dinner at Kirby’s with Emily, Adam and the Noskis! We had SUCH a blast just enjoying each other’s company, eating and drinking ALL the champagne. Of course we were too busy having fun to take any pictures. Womp womp.

I also set a lot of parties up this month. Like maybe more than ever before?! Each one is better than the last and I love seeing the joy on these kids faces when we get to show them their party!

This past weekend I went up to Palestine on Friday night to celebrate the funeral of Callie’s midtwenties with the Rankins and also to help out at the giant estate sale they were having for their Ginny. It was bittersweet but also a blast. I’m waiting patiently for Callie to call me one day to tell me that they are moving home because it seriously sucks not seeing her all the time like we used to. So someone hire Jason in Houston because I’m tired of being patient!

February has been full of fun, projects, and work! Brad and I have been making progress on the coffee cart (@galavantscoffee) and Callie and Jason made a dope logo for the front. We still have a ways to go, but it’s coming along! That’s super exciting and I’m super proud of Brad for sticking with it, learning new things, and building from the ground up.

I was also able to make some headway on Vinny. We got the new tires on and things were looking up on a joy ride down a pretty road until the brakes started acting up. Maybe this weekend, I can recruit Dad to help me take it down to the brake shop. It’ll probably be expensive, but what’s new there?

I’ve been making lots of pretty things at works and it really makes me want to explore more culinary and baking avenues. Speaking of which, I am officially accepting custom cake and dessert order made from scratch and with love by yours truly! Message us on Instagram if you’d like more information. :)

Valentine’s weekend was pretty much crazy. Brad surprised me with flowers, balloons, candy, and a super soft little bear which was so so sweet. We celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day because I had to work a dinner on Valentine’s Day. That ended up being somewhat of a nightmare. For those that don’t know, I get to work between 5 and 5:30 in the morning and typically get off between 1 and 2 in the afternoon. For the dinner, I ended up being at work for over SIXTEEN HOURS! The power went out at 3 o’clock and I was literally filling macarons by candlelight in the kitchen. We did as much prep as we could and then sat around in the dining area, waiting for the power. It came on an hour before dinner and somehow, we pulled through! It was actually pretty fun and exciting, but I was tired, let me tell you.

That weekend, the family congregated in Palestine to prep for the estate sale and it was so much fun! I always like getting together with everyone in that great big house, even if we’re working our butts off all weekend. This past weekend was no exception when we all came up again for the actual estate sale and to celebrate Callie’s twenty-seventh birthday. Honestly, we all worked so hard that weekend but I still enjoyed myself immensely and I hope everyone else did too!

There were some customers at the sale that really burned my biscuits, but we got through it! After it was over, I was walking through the upstairs to turn off lights. Nearly everything was gone, leaving just the bare bones of the house. It was so peaceful and still so beautiful with it large windows, lights streaming in on the peeling wallpaper. Chippy paint on old, old wood. I wasn’t as sad as I thought I would be. Instead, I was glad the junk was gone and this house was still standing, imperfect and perfect all at once.

Hello everyone! Another month of 2020 down. This one went by so much faster than January but I still feel like I didn’t do a whole lot.

On SuperBowl Sunday, because we aren’t giant football fans, Jason and I headed to the park since it was the first pretty day in a long time. We took our blow up couch things that my parents got us for Christmas and read books for an hour or two at the park! The day before that we went to visit Jason’s best friend and wife at their new property and spent a fun day with them!

The weekend after that we headed to the ranch. {Almost} all Jason’s sisters came out for a bit to hang out and it was just a really great weekend. I love spending time out there and hanging with all the kiddos.

The weekend after that was Valentine’s day weekend. Jason got me a really sweet custom drawing from @ of us and Bas as characters. We went to Palestine that night where we ate chocolate with my mom and put together a puzzle. Thrilling Valentine’s Day right?? That weekend our family all gathered at Ginny’s house to put the finishing touches on the estate sale. Lots of moving, cleaning and pricing things.

Weekend after that was an insanely boring weekend. Like don’t get my wrong, I love boring weekends, but I guess I just wasn’t feeling it that time. I spent a lot of Saturday moping and watching Netflix instead of doing productive things. Just in a funk all day. Sunday, Jason and I went to Painted Tree for the last time to move out of our booth. It took less than an hour to move out. We have another booth at an antique store closer to our house that we were thinking about moving in to but I just don’t know. I don’t want to waste money if no one is going to buy our things, like at PT.

Which brings me to this last weekend. It was my birthday so I got my favorite ice cream sandwich from Joy Macarons and the family got me a giant cookie cake and cookies from Great American Cookie my other favorite. And then for perhaps the last time we all met up in Palestine and stayed at a really funky 70’s house together all weekend to do the estate sale at Ginny’s house. Our aunt, uncle, and cousins came to help out, Brenna even showed up for Saturday! It was a really fun weekend, despite my feet dying every night from standing all day. But it really was a ton of fun to just hang out with everyone in the evenings.

(side note the family got me a GIANT fiddle leaf fig for my birthday and I love it! It doesn’t fit in my designated plant area but I’ll find a spot for it. But what I really need is tips and tricks to keep it alive! I’ve been known to kill a plant or two, so if you got any please please drop them in the comments because I want this magnificent thing to live!)

Work has FINALLY slowed down! To the point where sometimes I get to leave early on Thursdays and Fridays and I am loving it! I know it won’t last long so I’m trying to make the most of it. For example I have a blog already written for next week and I’ve been working on growing my side hustle. We’ve gotten more orders than normal this month so I’m really hoping that momentum continues and we can really grow this thing!

As I’m sure Kenzie discussed in her section Jason and I made the logo for Galavants a coffee shop her and her boyfriend are creating (that’s the first photo).

So that’s about it for my section, here’s my random phone photos from the month:
