As the World Rambles On: October Edition

Let me begin by saying I am thrilled to death about this fall weather and I hope it stays for a long time!! Now, as you know, the three of us kicked off October at the Round Top Antiques Festival - it was way too hot, but still lots of fun!
Claire and I enjoyed a day back in our college town on one of the chilliest and rainiest days (some of my favorite weather). We drove around the Texas A&M campus and reminisced on past experiences which was a good time. Then we headed to Bryan for antique shopping, the best coffee shop ever, Harvest (the iced Harvest latte is still one of the best lattes I’ve ever had), and to have dinner at a new restaurant I’ve been wanting to try, Ronin. The restaurant is in this incredible old building at the end of Main Street that Callie and I daydreamed about buying and fixing up when we were both in college.
They have done a wonderful job at preserving the gorgeous historic features and bringing in modern touches and the food and staff were so, so delightful. The entire atmosphere was fantastic and most of the ingredients comes from the nearby Ronin farm where they host moonlit dinners and farm tours and I am dying to go! Would highly recommend the restaurant if you’re ever in the area.
The whole family spent a weekend up at our grandmother’s house in Palestine for packing and cleaning. It’s always a good time when we’re together at that fantastic house and enjoying the weather and the beautiful yard.
I’ve also had some adventures in the kitchen and successfully made a French croissant (this was technically November, but I’m so proud, I had to tell y’all now!) after one failed attempt and I am feeling quite accomplished. October is one of my favorite months because it typically starts to get cooler this month in October and I have definitely been taking advantage of that and have been outside as much as I can!
November is Thanksgiving and my birthday so I’m pretty stoked for that! Let’s hope this weather is here to stay for the rest of the year!

Once again, another month has flown by and I have nothing to really show for it other than the dark circles under my eyes. Thank God for Tarte Shape Tape. Anyway, I survived the first nine weeks of school and only managed to cry HARD once. So I’d say things are either going pretty well or my tolerance for tears is way too high. I’d say it’s a good mix of both. As you already know, I tagged along with my loser friends to Roundtop where we willingly shopped until we almost died from heatstrokes once again. Every year we say we aren’t going to do this to ourselves again but we are obviously too stubborn.
The following weekend I went to one of the most beautiful weddings ever to celebrate my friend, Hannah and Austin! It was at Houston Country Club and it was absolutely stunning. She asked me to do a couple of signs for her so I came out of my handlettering hiatus to whip up a few special things. Can you believe her mother made that gorgeous cake?! Yes, it tasted as good as it looked. I traveled solo to this wedding because JT was in BR attending the LSU/Auburn game. Believe it or not, we are happily married… Just extremely independent.
The following weekend I worked in my classroom for most of Saturday, cleaning out cabinets and getting prepared for the next week. I know that sounds crazy and you wouldn’t have caught me dead doing that at my last job but honestly, it was so peaceful and for once I wasn’t in a rush to get things done. I definitely think I will try to work in my classroom at least one Saturday a month. I’ve rearranged my room a few times now and moved a few things out and I finally feel like I have everything just how I want it. I thought I had it good to go at the beginning of the year but it’s amazing what putting 17 kids with all of their own special needs in a classroom will do to the arrangement. It’s definitely nothing like decorating a living room, that’s for sure.
This last weekend I think I hung low because JT was back in Baton Rouge for another LSU game. I know for sure I made some amazing tortilla soup and pumpkin cookies and then piddled around the apartment tending to my plants and cleaning like your average wannabe 80 year old housewife. However, I can’t remember just exactly what I did because my days have turned into one extremely long day. I managed to survive all eight days of Hell Week at Orangetheory and will never in a million years do that again because I was so unbelievably sore and tired. I had ended up going 9 days in a row and that’s honestly just do much for this old lady. I took three days off for the first time in what felt like forever and today I killed it. So that was a sign that I need to take a break more often to rest and recover.

Well, October is over, which means we only have two more months left of 2019. And I’m not sure how to feel about that.
The first weekend of October we went to Round Top, a tradition. I also met up with Beyond Bartending to talk about being a virtual assistant for them and that was fun to keep my dream of being a VA alive. We also have some collaborations with them that will be featured soon so keep an eye out for that!
The second weekend Jason and I headed back to College Station (yes, the same day that Kenzie and Claire were there but we just missed them and they got to eat at the cool restaurant I’ve been DYING to go to). We met up with Jason’s family and tailgated all weekend. It’s always fun when everyone gets together and the wonderful weather that weekend did not hurt since we were outside all day everyday. Jason’s family owns a house in College Station (super close to Kyle Field) where his sisters and he got to live throughout college and they’ve recently put it up for sale. It’s a cute house within a very reasonable distance from campus, check it out here.
Speaking of selling houses…my grandma is selling hers. The third weekend Jason ditched me to drive to Kentucky with our friend Curtis to help him move (so now we’ve got no friends in Fort Worth, sad day) and I met the family at Ginny’s house to start packing things up for the movers. Ginny’s house is huge and has a lot of stuff in it so there was a lot to pack. Our aunt, uncle, and cousin met us there too so it was a fun weekend of being together and sorting through memories and packing things up. One of the places we cleaned out and packed was a little shed at the back of the property where Ginny kept all her seasonal decorations. We formed an assembly line and carted out at least 30 Christmas wreaths (THIRTY), some small, some giant. Like Ginny (I know she’ll read this blog), I know the house was huge but did you need that many wreaths?? Haha. Don’t worry she only brought about half with her in the move. In all seriousness though, it’s hard to downsize and she’s doing a good job at it!
The last weekend was my dad’s birthday. Every year in Waxahachie, TX the Country Texas Reporter puts on a festival in downtown that Dad has been dying to go to. Last year he really wanted to go but instead he helped me and Jason move into our house. So this year he and Mom made the trip up to Fort Worth to go to the festival and hang out with us. It was a fun weekend and although the festival was just a glorified farmer’s market it was still lots of fun and again the weather was nice which made it all more enjoyable!
So that was my October. Not very exciting. As always I suck at picture taking so here are 5 out of the 14 pictures I took this month that may be somewhat interesting.
