How to Conquer The Quarantine

How to Conquer The Quarantine

Written by: Brenna

Things are starting to get PRETTY real with this quarantine so I thought I would share a few things I have done and will be doing until I can go back to school and see my kids. My prayer right now is that we go back on April 13th and that everyone is staying as healthy as possible. By everyone, I literally mean everyone.

  1. If you’ve been thinking about buying a car since like November, maybe go look and then sit on the idea for a few days before pulling the trigger. That’s what I did. I loved my Equinox but I was creeping up on 100K (Which I’ve personally vowed to not drive another vehicle over 100K because for me, it becomes a money pit) and I wanted something bigger. So I haggled the price down to my price point and zoomed out of Buckalew with a new Traverse and I am OBSESSED. Plus now, I don’t have to borrow JT’s truck when I go to set up parties for The Slumber Party Club. So the moral of that little story is that, you can get a car for the price you want if stay VERY adamant about it.

  2. Start a puzzle. My sweet friend Lindsey let me borrow a donut puzzle a while back that I intended on starting over Spring Break not realizing that it’s a lot harder than it looks. So if you need a way to pass the time other than staring at a device, break out a puzzle. I prefer doing mine in front of the TV so I can watch a show while I’m working on it.

  3. Start a new show. I recently started Madmen and I am OBSESSED. I love everything about the 6O’s so for me it was a no brainer to start this show. Especially after finishing Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which you should also watch if you haven’t already.

  4. Get outside and tend to your plants! I’m very good about watering my plants when they need it but haven’t necessarily been good about repotting things that needed to spread their roots more. Probably because I hadn’t made time to get new pots and more soil. However, thanks to my wonderful Mother in Law, I now have plenty of hand-me-down pots and fresh organic soil. She hooked it up and I finally made time to repot some things and add new soil to plants that were struggling just a little bit. I’m trying to bring back a purslane from the dead now and each day it’s starting to look a little better so I’m staying hopeful.

  5. Okay so you don’t have plants… Get outside and do something active. Orangetheory is closed for the next 14 days so I will be taking my runs outside in the mean time. I’m not looking forward to it but I also don’t want to go back to school looking like a heifer. Which brings me to my next point…

  6. Don’t snack because you’re bored! There is plenty for you to do instead of snacking. Clean out some closets, finally tackle those baseboards or clean out whatever you have underneath your bed! There is literally no excuse for why you can’t do those things now. You’ll feel better after and Goodwill will be waiting with a tax receipt. You’re welcome for the sign if you were looking for one.

  7. Sit down with a good book! Or start a new podcast. Now would be the perfect time, especially when they want every one staying away from people.

  8. If you have kids, look online for resources to keep them busy. They thrive on a schedule when they are in school and while this time feels like a longer spring break, it isn’t. They still need to be doing some sort of learning. This is the schedule I will be sending out to my parents along with work they can do. Heck even if you don’t have kids and you need something to keep you busy, adapt this to your lifestyle in whatever way you can.

So that’s all I’ve got so far. I feel like we are all in such uncharted waters here and I don’t really know how to feel about the entire situation. My heart hurts for the small business and restaurant owners right now because this hurts them more than we probably know. I hope if you aren’t already, that you start washing your damn hands soon and staying away from people unless you absolutely need to go to the grocery store or something. Enjoy this time with your family. I know we always talk about how we wish we had more time at home and now here we are, getting what we asked for. So take advantage of it while you can!
