As the World Rambles On: May Edition

This year just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Read all about what happened during the last month of our lives and how we’re getting through this wild year so far.

I feel like I have even less to say this month than in previous months.
Our second wedding anniversary was at the beginning of this month. We put back on our wedding attire for fun which made me realize I need to do something again. Work out, or eat better (preferably both but that probably won’t happen). Although I did bust my wedding dress hook and eye on my wedding day and my bridesmaid had to safety pin me into my dress all night This time was even worse and the zipper kept popping and coming unzipped. Yikes.
We went back home for the first time since all the crazy and were able to hang out with the quarantining families for the first time in forever! We went to Conroe the first weekend and the ranch for Mother’s Day Weekend. It was so much fun. I missed being there and really just being around family. I didn’t miss much in quarantine because I’m a super homebody but going back home (to the ranch and Conroe) was the thing I missed most. I almost even missed the long drives. Though I’m back to not loving them already. But I’ll happily drive to be with the people I love!
The next two weekends we stayed in Fort Worth again. We made lots of new things on the CNC and our small etsy shop has started picking up lately! Mostly name puzzles but a few other items too. It’s not a lot but I love watching it grow and making all the things for people! Also, yes that last photo is of Bas on our craft table. Sometimes when we’re painting he wants to see what we’re doing so he sits on the table with us. Does that make me a crazy dog mom? (ps see something you like? Click on the photo )
Last weekend we went back to Conroe for the soft opening of Kenzie and Brad’s coffee cart and for Ginny’s (our grandma) birthday! The opening party was lots of fun and the coffee was pretty good too (the only reason I say pretty good is because I HATE coffee but Brad did make me one that morning and I drank it all so…). Mom’s brother and his family (one of two close family members) came down for both the cart and Ginny’s birthday and it’s always fun when they’re around!
And that’s about it. As always work sucks and the world is still insane. Let’s do better.

I feel like May was super busy but in a pretty good way! Brad and I ordered our espresso machine last month and it finally came in and we were able to really kick things up a notch on the coffee cart! I made my first ever latte (my artwork still needs a lot of work) and we are getting closer and closer to finally opening! I’m very excited for that and can’t wait until we’re making money and all official.
I also bought Apollo a life jacket which sounds like not a very big deal, but I’ve been trying to buy him one for so long! He loves going to the beach and splashing around in the surf, but he isn’t a good swimmer because his head and torso are so thick and heavy that he topples over headfirst whenever he tries to swim. Now that he has a cute little life jacket, I won’t have to worry about him drowning due to his top-heaviness and he can enjoy splashing and swimming safely!
I’m also officially accepting custom cake and specialty dessert orders which is kind of an announcement. I’ve done a few cakes for friends but really would love to explore that even more and make some extra side money if at all possible and show people what I can do with some buttercream and an oven!
My parents, Brad, and I have also been going on evening bike rides to Downtown Conroe and around the neighborhood which I’ve really been enjoying. We typically ride to the top of the parking garage and hope to catch a pretty sunset. It’s getting me back outdoors and I really like that and watching the sunset from the top is super peaceful.
This past weekend, Brad and I put the final touches on getting the cart all set up and threw together a backyard soft opening for Galavant’s. Lots of friends and family came and had some good coffee and hung out and drank and stuck it out through a twenty minute rain storm and I headed into this week tired, but also super grateful for the wonderful people in our lives that support and love us.
On a much heavier note. I hope everyone is staying safe out there and spreads extra love whenever and wherever they can. I hope June comes with progress and peace.

My month was just as weird as the last few have been. I’m glad to have wrapped up the school year but sad at the same time because I didn’t get to give my kids a proper send off. I have high hopes for next year though. For now, I’m going to soak up this summer and remain as active as ever. I have nothing better to do anyway.
I think three big things happened this month that I want to highlight. The first being that my mom got engaged on Phil’s birthday! That’s probably been the hardest secret to keep from her but it was so worth it because she was so surprised. I am seriously so happy for her and Phil! Originally he was going to propose over Easter weekend but COVID had to mess all of that up. So he popped the question over pizza and surrounded by our families. Does it get much better than that? Nope!
If you didn’t hear this already, I’ve packed up my entire classroom and I’m headed to second grade! At first I was moved to Pre-K to make room for another bilingual teacher in first but then a spot opened up in second grade and I scooped that offer right up. I think moving to second has made wrapping this year up easier because I know that I will have some of my same kids again next year. Plus I am departmentalized and I will just be teaching reading and writing which is my favorite. Not only that, I get to be partners with my work bestie and honestly it’s just going to be a great year with an amazing team. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us.
Lastly, I finally got to see Callie and Jason again to celebrate the opening of Galavants Coffee! Kenzie and Brad put together the cutest little backyard shindig and I had a blast. I can’t wait to see them take off in Conroe and hopefully beyond. Kenzie served up some of the yummiest treats and it felt like the old times hanging out together in their backyard with not a single worry in the world. It rained but that didn’t stop us from celebrating new beginnings.
Orangetheory opened back up so that has been so nice to add in with our walking and bike riding. The classes are a little bit shorter now so that they can clean in between but that doesn’t bother me at all. I’m just happy they are open again!
I hope that June is much easier for everyone. Safer, kinder and overall just better. My prayers go out to those who are hurting right now.
